I really think that whatever Gowon did inthe years gone by was hitory and personally since there is no wrutten document that he gave bakassi away, he should not be blamed wholly. However the blame squarely lies on the weak and obviously corrupt Nigerian leaders who in one guise or the other gave Cameroun the effontery to challenge us to a show down in the first place.
If sufficient force had been brought to bear on Cameroun at the initial stage I doubt if all this sabre rattling of theirs will surface.
the entire armed forces of Cameroun cannot stand up to the might of two brigades of the Nigerian Army. It seems a betrayal to the Army High Command that the Army has lost illustrious sons and daughters of the soil in far away lands while they are been prevented from really showing Cameroun who really should sabre rattle.
if only we have done the right thing at the right time like sending 2 divisions of mechanised brigade and armour against them, the first time they killed one of our soldiers instead of playing Big Brother Africa, i think we would have heard a totally different scenario
